We are an affiliation of Christ Church of China (Vancouver), an independent non-denominational church. Coquitlam Christ Church of China (CCCC) was planted in January 1988 by Christ Church of China. We began with a Chinese School and preschool as the bridges to serve the Chinese families in Coquitlam.

CHRIST CHURCH OF CHINA (VANCOUVER)

Christ Church of China was founded in 1911 by a group of Chinese Christians. The first founders’ meeting took place at the Chinese Benevolent Association attended by over a hundred overseas Chinese Christians. The church founded her addressed at 143 Pender Street East, Vancouver. It was then bearing the name of the “Chinese Christian Church” and was an independent and self-supporting church with no denominational or missionary affiliation. Its ministry included worshipping, proclaiming the Gospel, educating the illiterate, cultivating the virtues, helping the poor and societies. Later on the church was renamed to “Christ Church of China.” 1930’s and 40’s were the periods of upheaval in China. The church, though on the other side of the Pacific, was still affected. Nevertheless, with the grace of God, the church continued to press on the good work begun by the founding members.

DEVELOPMENT OF C.C.C.C. FROM 1988 - 2006

In 1987, Christ Church of China carried out a survey on Chinese population in Coquitlam and discovered that there were many Chinese families in this community. However, there were no Chinese churches. In January 1988, we started the Coquitlam Chinese School to serve the Chinese families in the Tri-City area. The current church property was purchased (i.e. 1933 Como Lake Avenue in Coquitlam) in July 1988. We began our first Sunday worship service in September. Then, Little Prince Preschool was established to serve the local families. Since the 80’s, the number of Chinese families in Coquitlam has vastly increased. We continue our utmost to serve them and to bring them the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Note: the Chinese School and Preschool were closed in 2001.)

We are grateful for the pastors who had served in our church for the past years. They were Dr. Stephen Lee, Rev. King Lung Cheung and Rev. Dr. Alan Lai.

In 1996, Rev. George Siu joined us and started serving as the lead pastor. During this time, the Purpose-Drive Church model was implemented in order to effectively introduce Christ to people. The church organization was restructured into Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, and Evangelism. In 1998, an English-speaking congregation was started.

Pastor William Hui joined the pastoral team as the English Pastor since September 2006. The focus is to reach out to the youths, young adults, and our English-speaking community. In September 2007, LG (for Teens) was started. Joy Fellowship (college / young adults) has been growing steadily since November 2004.

EXPANSION OF C.C.C.C. FROM 2006 – PRESENT

As early as 1996, we began to realize the limitation in the premises. Since then the board drafted various building project ideas. In the Membership Meeting in December 2006, we agreed to expand the building from 5088 S.F. to 9226 S.F. Also, the church officially registered as an independent society in the Province of B.C on August 29th, 2006.

Rev. Dr. Daniel Wong took the role as Senior Pastor since the departure of Pastor George in mid-2007. Pastor Daniel focuses on building up disciples and growing small groups, while deploying the church structure as Magnification, Membership, Maturity, Ministry, Missions, Children’s, English, and Administration departments.By September 2009, AWANA (Children’s Ministry) will be established to serve the children in our community in a fun way based on biblical values.

The church expansion project was started in February 2007 and finished in early 2008. With the blessings of our Heavenly Father, and the faithfulness of many friends and families, the building was completed, and we were able to move in to worship our everlasting God on April 20, 2008.

Coquitlam Christ Church of China is not a perfect church, but with God’s grace, we are a church which commits to our Lord Jesus Christ, a church that always desires to be salt and light to the community, and a church that obeys the Great Commandment wholeheartedly and carries out the Great Commission with full commitment.
