Introduction
Every time when we mention about sinners, we would immediately think of those shameless and unremorseful criminals who are locked up in prison. Not many people will freely admit that they are sinners. Therefore, before we come to know the salvation of God, we must first know that we are sinners.
The Definition of Sin
In the Bible, the meaning of “sin” in the original text is “miss the mark”, just like missing the target when one shoots something. In another word, it means that the standard which God has set for man has not been reached.
Sin and Sins
-
Sin (Gen. 8:21; Jer.17:9; Psalm 51:5; Romans 5:12; 7:19-20)
-
Some people suggest that the reason why man sins is that he is influenced by the outward environment. However, the Bible says that man commits sins because he has the nature of sin and that this nature of sin is innate (i.e. we are born with it) and it is passed down by Adam. Therefore, man sins not only because he is driven by the environment but rather because man has the nature of sin.
-
-
Sins (Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 3:10; 23)
-
The Bible tells us that there is nobody who has never sinned. Even though some people might appear to be very righteous, but because man has the nature of sin, sins will certainly be manifested in the person.
-
Sinful Deeds
(Matt. 15:19-20; Mark 7:21-22; Romans 1:29-32; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19-21; 2 Tim. 3:1-5)
Consequences Of Sin
-
Death of Physical Body (Romans 5:12, 6:23)
-
Separation Between Man and God (Genesis 3:8-9; Isaiah 59:2)
-
Relationships between People are Broken (Gen. 3:16)
-
Having to Face God’s Righteous Judgment (Hebrews 9:27; Rev. 20:12)
-
Bringing Forth Curses Upon the Whole Earth (Gen. 3:17-18)
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Sin has not only caused damage to ourselves but also to our relationship with God and other people. The more we are aware of sin, the more we would treasure God’s salvation and mercy.
